Rapid Recovery: Downtown L.A.'s 10 Freeway Reopens Ahead of Schedule

The 10 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, which was closed due to a severe fire, reopened much earlier than expected for Monday's commute. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, along with other officials, celebrated the reopening. The freeway's damage, caused by an arson-related fire, is still under investigation, with authorities seeking a suspect. Gov. Gavin Newsom announced temporary closures for ongoing repairs but assured minimal traffic disruption. The reopening, crucial for the upcoming Thanksgiving travel, was accelerated by state emergency funds. The freeway's repair, including structural and maintenance work, is estimated to cost around $3 million, expected to be covered by federal funding. The reopening is also a relief for local businesses affected by the closure and aligns with increased public transportation usage, which local authorities hope to continue encouraging.

High School Athletic Schedules - November

Nationally Ranked No. 2 Etiwanda High Dominates in First Game Against St. Mary's

The Etiwanda High School girls basketball team, ranked No. 2 nationally, started their 2023-24 season with a decisive 65-48 victory over St. Mary's of Stockton. The reigning CIF State Open Division champions, Etiwanda, demonstrated their prowess in a tough game that saw them leading by just two points at halftime. Their remarkable second-half performance widened the lead to 17 points, led by senior Kennedy Smith and junior Aliyahna Morris, each scoring 26 points. Coach Stan Delus praised the team's offensive balance and adaptability, particularly in integrating new players like junior Grace Knox and awaiting Shaena Brew's clearance to play. St. Mary's relied on key players like Texas-signee Jordan Lee and freshman Kori Rogers. Etiwanda's upcoming schedule includes challenging games in Texas, the Bahamas, and Oregon, and their next local game is set for January 5th. Coach Delus is focused on building the team's mental resilience for the season ahead.
