Puppy Scam Uncovered: Court Orders Restitution from Deceptive Sellers

A family in Inland Empire, California, has been ordered by the Los Angeles Superior Court to pay restitution and stop selling dogs after being accused of selling sick and falsely advertised puppies. The Kenney family allegedly ran a scheme selling unhealthy puppies online, misrepresenting their breed, health, and age.

Emily Tangorra's experience highlights the scam: she bought a supposed Goldendoodle for $1,100, only to discover the dog was severely ill with canine parvovirus and not a Goldendoodle, as its fur had been dyed. The illness led to nearly $10,000 in medical expenses.

Attorney Gary Praglin, representing the plaintiffs, indicated that several families suffered due to the Kenneys' actions, with some puppies dying. A 2018 search warrant at the Kenneys' home resulted in Rick Kenney's arrest on unrelated charges.

Initially, there was no criminal charge for the puppy scam due to lack of evidence, but a recent civil case verdict found the family guilty of fraud. The court issued an injunction against the Kenneys from selling dogs and awarded $10,000 to each plaintiff family for emotional distress.

Ontario Convention Center Hosts Joyous Adoption Finalization for 77 Families

The 23rd Annual San Bernardino County Children and Family Services Adoption Finalization Event, held at the Ontario Convention Center, marked a significant milestone for 77 families. During this event, 107 children, aged between nine months and 17 years, were officially adopted, leaving foster care to join their forever families. This event is particularly notable as it coincides with National Adoption Month.

One of the heartwarming stories from the event was that of 2-year-old Grace Moore, who was adopted by Marilyn Moore. Marilyn had been caring for Grace since she was a newborn, and the adoption was a joyous occasion for both. Similarly, the Weber family, who had previously adopted 2-year-old Levi, welcomed a little girl named Charlie into their family, expanding their love and commitment.

This event not only celebrated the new beginnings for these children and their families but also highlighted the importance of adoption in providing stable, loving homes for children in need. For many families, this was not their first experience with adoption, demonstrating their ongoing dedication to opening their homes and hearts to more children.

Standoff in Upland Ends with House Fire After Six-Hour Confrontation

On Monday night, a standoff lasting six hours in Upland concluded when the residence where an armed suspect was barricaded caught fire, as reported by various media outlets. The incident occurred in the vicinity of 15th Street and Fairwood Way, located east of Benson Avenue and south of the 210 Freeway.

The Upland Police Department, along with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, were engaged in the standoff. The situation escalated when deputies, attempting to execute a search warrant, were met with gunfire from the suspect, leading to the barricade. The identity of the suspect and the reasons for the search warrant have not been disclosed by officials. Additionally, details regarding the suspect's condition, who reportedly engaged in a shootout with SWAT team members, remain undisclosed. There were no immediate reports of injuries among law enforcement officers.

Upland police announced on social media that the area had been secured and there was no longer a threat to the public, although the immediate vicinity remained closed for ongoing investigations. Residents were advised to avoid the area unless they lived nearby.
